New Coffee Maker Review
well, our coffee maker bit the dust last sat. much to our morning disappointment. it was a Mr. Coffee from 'the co' --costco-- and you know their return policy is excellente.
so no probs there. i'd only bought it in april. it SHOULD last longer than that! i didn't like it anyway. the cord didn't really reach to the sink & so i filled carafe to fill 'reservoir' and there was only a little teeny weeny place in which to pour the water. ick. etc. so, since the co prides itself on offering high end but not a selection of a million of them, i went on to the wallllllmart place.
what did i find?
well, after perusing a while, i settled on the Hamilton Beach Brew Station. i like the idea of not having a carafe. i DO like it. the ONLY complaint is: the hot plate on which the reservoir/bucket thing sits on doesn't stay hot enough. i like my coffee REALLY hot. esp.w/ a sore throat: i like to SCALD it! so, i pour my mug, then put it right in the micro for 45 or so. perfecto.
B doesn't like that either.
but i do like that it's all contained in the one machine. i like just having to push my mug up against the bar to make the coffee come out. LOVE that.
i also like that it is all black. there is no stainless steel to try to keep spot free. there is no white that will yellow in time. it's plastick-y rough-like black material. like not shiny plastic, yknow? i LOVE it!
but we shall see how it passes the longevity test. the reheating is a bit of a chore. but if i like ALL OTHER ASPECTS, seems 2 me it equals out.
that's my review on that!

Hiya KT! Thanks very much for the lovely comment... I’ll try and answer your questions as best I can... first, it’s funny... we moved here when our kids were not much older than yours are now. 7, 5 & 3. they grow so quick! Peter is an engineer, and we’ve lived here since the mid-90’s, so if I use a few British phrases, it’s only due to the environment. bits are ‘things’, and yeah, that’s one of my favorites. Bin is good too; means garbage. Throw something in the bin. Our kids went to British schools our first two years, so we picked up a lot of words that way. J was in reception (kindergarten) and for a while I was ‘Mum’...
Started homeschooling after that, and have been doing so for the past 8 years... it’s really the best for us, allows us the freedom to go back to the US when we like, we know exactly what they are learning, and UK schools really aren’t much better than US ones, in my humble opinion... never thought we’d still be schooling, but also never thought we’d be living outside the US all these years either. Just following God’s plan...
What, by the way, is a flybaby?
I love having Peter home. He likes it too, except the pain bit. Helps with schooling, and I guess I just like him. I’ll miss him when he goes back. But at least he won’t be hurting then...
Uh... well, that’s about it. I did try running last year, but my back just said NO! my osteo thought I was nuts too, but going out running got me back into going out power walking, which I used to do years ago. I lost 110 pounds upon moving here, and have kept a good 90 of it off since ’98. I go about two miles three X’s a week, on a really nice path. That’s what the ipod’s for... so, good for you, and you are in my prayers for your knee to cooperate.
Take care, sister, and I’ll be checking out your blog to see how things are going. Peter just brought ‘our’ dessert to the comp: big raisins. I’m going go look for my Christmas cake. I think there is some cream in the fridge too...
mollie
PS... good luck with the coffee maker! We had an electric kettle, (everyone in the country ahs an electric kettle) for tea, for a long time, until we moved to this house, that has an AGA, big stove-like thing that is always on. So now we just use the AGA kettle, pop it on the hot burner, and there’s your tea water...
MMM.... tea... may have to go make a pot of decaf!
Good night!
Hi K,
I just caught up on your blog - - been very busy this week. We have been praying for your knee and your body healing!! I am wanting to know where to go to root for you on your run. I want to cheer and hoot for you!!! I will try not to embarrass you tho!
Your coffee maker sounds neat - haven't tried anything new for a long time. I tend to brew our coffee and then turn the pot off immediately so that it doesn't get that stale, over brewed, yucky flavor. Therefore, using the micro is a usual way to enjoy coffee around here . . . unless we get it right after the brewing is done.I usually only have one cup/daily since I usually get a latte later in the day - - hassle free b/c I let someone else prepare it! I try to drink the latte really slowly - making the pleasure of it last .. so I usually end up reheating it in the micro tooo. Handy machine! Were would we be with out microwave ovens?
Sounds like you have some new friends on this site! Interesting- where is A moving???? I guess I have really lost track of her (and family) but, i really enjoy reading her encouraging words and support!!
We are praying for your health to improve at your home!! Fall sickness is never fun - I get on Echinacea every fall as it seems to be a major germ time of the year! I have read studies show it doesn't work - however, I seem to get results. Maybe it is all in my head... except it doesn't go into respiratory infections etc. Since I see so many people in my "little" office, I am certainly exposed to lots of crummy germs!Anyway, enough of this . . PRAYER is the major protection I have anyway.
Love you gal,
MMMMMMMMMMMM
New coffee maker sounds good... so good, in fact, I think I'm going to go make a cuppajoe right now!
Enjoy!
I think mmmmmmmmmm is right about the echinacea, I would claim that it has helped my immune system, when I'm feeling on the 'verge' of something.
I have this coffee maker ... and I love it!!! OK, I really don't drink coffee all that often, maybe twice a month. But when I do ... I love it!!!
